The Novelty collection began as a challenge to only use upcycled materials. After quitting my job, I no longer had space to keep scraps I had been collecting for years. Ultimately this idea would improve my skill, so I convinced myself to accept the challenge. The Novelty collection was the most difficult idea I committed to. There was nothing I wanted more than to improve my craft and I had to use whatever I had. I worked backwards, binding fabric remnants together to make one whole piece that became part of a bigger piece. I found some creations to be one of one because during the pandemic, fabric manufacturers overseas disappeared, some fabrics I haven’t found until this day. I always did love the idea of being rare. This collection is the most genuine of all. It tells my story although at the time, it didn't feel good to use scraps. I am inspired by human capability, how people overcome challenges when they want to succeed. I would figure out how to keep going, for my freedom, my dreams and aspirations. I found when you work to create visions rather than your own, your freedom slips away. The Novelty collection allows me to be free, to create ideas regardless of what’s trending or not, to release what I create during sleepless nights. As random as it gets, I hope you enjoy the Novelty collection as much as I do.
